Obituary of the life of
Alice Marina Hepburn
Life is a precious gift to behold and each moment should be treasured.
It was a special day on the 12th of February, 1937 when a beautiful baby girl was born to the late Effie Minnis and the late Elgin Adderley. She was given the name Alice Marina.
She attended the Eastern Junior and Eastern Senior Schools.
Marina met and fell in love with her late husband the dashing and charming Arthur Hepburn and were wedded in Holy Matrimony. This union was blessed with five children.
Even though she was given the name Alice many persons called her Marina, 'Rena' or 'Ms. H'. Marina was an independent and a hard working industrious entrepreneur, who followed in the footsteps of her late mother Effie Minnis by becoming a Straw Vendor. Locals and visitors alike were often times impressed by her pleasant personality and she had visitors coming back upon their return looking for again and again. The straw craft was something she thoroughly enjoyed, however, after many years of working in the industry she decided to retire from the trade.
As time moved on her love for cooking led her to become a Lunch Vendor at D.W. Davis Junior High School. She prepared many delicious treats for the students and teachers alike and one of her favorites was her coconut tart of which many persons to this day still talk about. Marina enjoyed cooking so much that she decided to set-up shop at home and on Saturdays many persons from near and far came by and would park their vehicles and wait to purchase her one-of-a kind conch fritters and other tasty treats.
Marina lived a quiet simple life and often times would go down memory lane and talk about many of her school friends, the good old days of riding bicycle, spinning top and yes shooting marbles.
She was one who worked hard and provided to the best of her ability for her family. Marina was a loving caring and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
This giant of a woman had a big heart and would give of her last especially if someone needed something to eat, no matter who you were. In the words of Helen Steiner Rice "Time is not measured
by the years that you live but by the deeds that you do and the joy that you give. And each day as it comes brings a chance to each one to love to the fullest, leaving nothing undone. So what does it matter how long we may live if as long as we live we unselfishly give."
Marina was a fun loving and jovial person to be around and never mind how sad one might have been she would always find something to say that would make you laugh. In other words it could be said that Marina was the life of the party.
This woman of God had an unwavering faith in her God and in the words of Proverb chapter 31:10 "who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies'. This virtuous woman instilled Godly principles in all of her children and grandchildren and always encouraged them to do what is right and pleasing to God in whatever you do.
She was an active and dedicated member of St. Matthew's Parish who, even when not feeling well would still try her best to come out to church and praise her God. Marina loved to sing and was a member of the Senior Choir. She was also a member of the Anglican Church Women and Social Outreach Ministry and among other organizations; she was a member of the 'House Hold of Ruth Grand Lodge'.
Over the years Marina has had many health challenges all of which she battled fiercely and on Saturday May 17th, 2014 with her son and grandchildren present she quietly slipped away to be with her Lord and Master.
