Obituary

On Monday March 2nd, 1942 in the quiet settlement of Little Creek, South Andros, a beautiful bouncing baby girl was born to proud parents James and Julian Taylor; they named her Arimentha. She was christened into the Catholic faith at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Little Creek, where she worshipped with her family for many years. She went on to attend Saint Roberts Catholic Church where she remained a faithful servant until her demise. In June of this year she openly rededicated her life to the Lord. 'Arie' as she was affectionately known received her education at Pleasant Bay All Age School, where she later worked as a School Monitor and Teacher.

Arimentha was a friendly woman with a kind and generous spirit. She was a pillar of the community and committed herself to many community based entities. She was an active member of the No. 1 Congo Society, in which she served as Secretary and Vice President, Local Government, Founder and past president of the Little Creek Development Association, Past Worthy Matron of Mount Tabor Chapter 19, Order of Eastern Star Lodge and also served as a Justice Of The Peace.

Arie was an exceptional mother and father to her children, grand children and great grand children and opened up her heart and home to everyone in her community. She spent the majority of her life working on her farm and many days on the bay hauling fish with her family and friends. She was a restless soul, always working to provide for her family. Arie worked many years at the South Andros Cooperative of which she was a member. In 1993 she was employed by the Bahamas Telecommunications Corporation as a Telephone Operator. She was an entrepreneur. In the early 2000's Arie made her lifelong dream a reality by owning her very own business.

In late December her healthy slowly began fading. She travelled to Nassau on numerous occasions seeking medical attention. In June she openly rededicated her life to the Lord. It was on July 19th that Arie's family was given the sad news that their loved one was battling a brain tumor. On Sunday morning, November 16th, her children received the call that all families dread; she had taken for the worse. At 9:47 am Arie quietly slipped away from this world to eternal peace.
