On March 18, 1938 Audrey Yvonne was the first of eight children born to the late William and Eula White. Audrey married the late Kenneth Evans and the couple was blessed with two children, Renee and Kenrick. Audrey's compassionate devotion extended to her grandchildren Adissa Gibson and Travis and Kianu Evans as well as to her son-in-law, Craig Gibson and daughter-in-law, Tonia Evans.
Audrey received her early education at Eastern Junior and Senior Schools, completing high school at St.John's College. At the tender age of 18, she began her professional life at St.Anne's School. However, motivated by her sense of personal development; she enrolled at the Bahamas Teachers' College where she obtained her Teacher's Certificate. Having attained the rank of a fully qualified teacher, Audrey rejoined the faculty of St. Anne's School, eventually ascending to the rank of Vice Principal. In September 1978, she returned to her Alma Mater, St. John's College as Senior Mistress as well as Acting Principal of the Primary school. In September 1980, she graced the halls of Queen's College Primary where she she served for 20 wonderful years and held the post of Grade 5 Level Head.
Audrey's interest in her students was not restricted to their academic achievements. She embraced teaching as a personal ministry, engaging her pupils in extracurricular activities to enhance their holistic development. Audrey chaperoned students on several trips to the Family Islands, America and Canada, affording them the invaluable opportunity to visit many historical places.
Her exemplary influence as the consummate educator did not go unnoticed. Audrey was honored by the Primary Principals' Association, St. Anne's School and Queen's College in recognition of her contribution to the teaching profession. After faithfully investing over 40 years in the educational development of our nation's youth, she retired in June 2001. Her well earned respect from parents, students and colleagues over the years motivated the administration of Queen's College to engage her post-retirement services, employing her as a substitute teacher until June 2008.
Audrey became an integral part of the Church of God of Prophecy, Lyon Road under the leadership of the late Bishop James R.Cooper. Her early involvement in the life of her church through Youth meetings (VLB) laid the foundation for her worship, adoration , fear and admonition of God. In pursuit of her divine purpose, she became active in the Church and served as Sunday School Secretary, Teacher, Public Relations Director, Authorized Teacher and Assistant Director of the Ladies' Ministry. Audrey was a congenial and personable lady who sacrificially served her family, church and nation as a testimony to her Christian commitment.
Audrey was under ongoing medical treatment over the past year. On Monday, January 7, 2013, she was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital, finally succumbing to her illness on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 5:30a.m.
