OBITUARY
On the 30th day of June in the year 1983 a gorgeous baby girl was born to the proud parents of Brenda Mae Taylor and Audley Martin (deceased). She was given the name Audrey Mae Martin, affectionately known as "Peanut".
Audrey received her early childhood education at Lynn's Wonder Land Pre-School. Thereafter, she moved to T.G. Glover Primary School. Upon completion she moved on to the C.C.Sweeting High School; here she received her Secondary level education, graduating with honors. After completion she received her Teriary education at Saint Augustine's College in Raleigh Carolina where she graduated on the Dean's List and received a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration.
Upon returning from tertiary education abroad, Audrey was employed by The Ministry of Education. Here they gave her the assignment in Long Island, she returned to New Providence where she started teaching and coaching C.I.Gibson Senior High School. Shortly after two years at her former school, she was then assigned to her Alma mater C.C. Sweeting Senior High School. Thereafter she was transferred to Eleuthera, where she taught at North Central High. Everywhere she went, she left an immense impression on her students, they loved her, as she did them.
Audrey was considered a peoples person. She was very welcoming to everyone. Everyone that knew her, knew of her love for basketball. This love she shared with few of her nephews, whom she taught everything she knew. She would attend all of their games, cheering them on from the sideline. She was very supportive of all of her nieces and nephews in all of their endevours. The love of basketball was in her blood; even when she was trasferred to the island, she would return to Nassau to play with her team The Lady Truckers. This she did on many occasions during weekends, all to satisfy her undying love to play ball.
Even though Audrey loved basketball, she loved her child Gerquay Lightfoot even more. They shared a special bond, like every mother and child does.Gerquay was her heartstring, she always made sure she had everything she needed starting with the best education available. Audrey wanted to make sure her child had the education to become a Doctor, this is the profession she dreams of becoming one day. Audrey was deemed to be the "super aunty", she was the only aunt that could take on Gerquay, Shawnique, Nelo and trinity at the same time and not go "insane". They looked forward to spending time together, and this Audrey made sure happened on a regular basis.
On January 12th, she admitted herself to the Princess Margret Hospital due to severe pains in her leg and lower abdomen. Audrey was then visited by her close friends on Monday morning, here she had an interchange of encourangement and love. They made her laugh and kept her busy whiles reminiscing on old time basketball stories during high school and life as women. As the bell had rang to bring visitation rights to a close, her family and friends bid her farewell and proceeded to the door. To their surprise as they were approaching the door to leave, she summons them back asking them to tell her a few more jokes. As a result they entertained her for a little while longer and then left.
On the 17th, the family received a call that Audrey had suffered from a series of seizures due to a fever. She was then rushed to the Intense Care Unit because her breathing was abnormal. This was when everything turned for the worse. At 7:30p.m. the doctor spoke to the family, informing them that Audrey's heart had failed her, however she was still alive.
About 6:30a.m. the following morning, the family members received a call that they needed to attend the hospital right away because Audrey had passed. It is satisfying to know that she died with a smile on her face.
