Obituary

On October 1st 1944 sounds of laughter and cries could be heard in the tranquil settlement of Behring Point, Andros as a bouncing baby boy was born to the proud parents, Anna and Edward White (deceased). They named him Basil.
As a young boy Basil attended the All Age Catholic School in Behring Point, Andros, until moving to Nassau where he attended and graduated from Our Lady's Catholic School.
As a young lad, "Cowboy," as he was affectionately called, loved working with his hands building and fixing things. As a young man he started his career in the construction field where he mastered the masonary, carpentry, and steel work trades. Basil was also the family barber; he often bragged that he was the best barber that came out of Andros. If you really knew Cowboy you would agree that he was a man of strong character. On any given day or night after partying, no one at home or in the neighborhood could sleep until Cowboy went to sleep. Cowboy was a person who adored his family, especially his parents with whom he lived with until their demise. When his mother died it was a difficult period for him but he knew he could not throw in the towel; he had a father whom he loved dearly and had to be there for. His father later passed and he again experienced a difficult period. Basil, to his nephews and nieces was more of a big brother rather than an uncle. He gave us sound advice, and encouragement, and if the need arose he would never refuse to put his hands in his pockets to help us out. He never denied us when he could do anything for us, including taking care of our children, always calling them "lil scuppers," or assisting us wherever needed.
Basil over the last few years lived with his caring sister Geneva whom he loved dearly. Four years ago Basil began to loose his sight and there after his health began to deteriorate but even in sickness Cowboy would still humour you with old stories. Finally on the faithful morning of June 15th, at four in the morninng 2010 he left this world to be with his saviour.
