Obituary

T'was March 7, 1937, at 6am in the early morning, when Joseph and Erella Dorsett were graced with the

life of a blissful baby boy while sojourning in the island of Eleuthera, Bahamas. They called him Bertram McDonald Dorsett. During his early childhood, Bertram, along with his parents left the pink soil of

Eleuthera and relocated to the island of New Providence where he received a formal education and later graduated from the Western Senior High School.

Bert, as he was affectionately called, held many jobs, including " The Contract" in the United States, long-term employment at Solomon Mines and the former Tropical Brokerage Services. Despite Bert

being a hard worker, he was not a dull man. He found time for love.

In 1956, the beautiful Priscilla (Patsy) caught the eye of Bert and they were later joined in marriage. This union was blessed with nine children. Bert and Patsy lived a fulfilled life which involved travelling to many countries including Europe, The United States and throughout the Caribbean.

Bert was a true family man and epitomized the word "provider". His children will attest to the fact that

they may not have had all the luxuries they wanted but they had all that they needed. Bert was the sole

breadwinner for his wife his children for many years affording most of his children a private school education, and funded extra curricular activities. He was a very supportive father to his children and

grandchildren and was very instrumental in their upbringing. His greatest delight and joy was to see the accomplishments of his grandchildren excelling and succeeding in the Medical, Legal, Aviation, and Culinary professions and pursing higher education at international universities.

Although a very reserved and quiet person, he was revered. Despite his quiet nature, he knew how to have fun. Christmas time was his favourite! Bert prepared all the food for many years, and would dance throughout the night to Christmas music his favorite being "Gee Whiz It's Christmas".

Bert was a giving person, who showed the same care to his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He kept

precise record of all birth dates and gave them gifts normally monetary.

On Wednesday the 28th day of August, 2013, Bert returned home from vacation in Orlando, Florida. We had no idea this would be his last family vacation. Same day of his return, he displayed symptoms that

required urgent medical attention. His relentless will to remain home was overridden by his children who insisted that he go to the hospital that Friday morning. He was admitted to ICU on Saturday, and

an emergency surgery was performed on Sunday morning, September 1st. Later that evening after much prayers from his spiritual leaders and immediate family, Bert, in the presence of his immediate family, peacefully, slipped away at 5:50pm.
