Obituary

'There is a time for every thing and a season for every activity under the heavens. '
Ecclesiastes 3:1 NIV'

February 17th 1961 was a season of rejoicing in the life of Ruth Wood and Oscar Johnson. From the
day she was born her parents realized that Bridgette Octavia Johnson was a special child. This fact was
made evident throughout her lifespan.
Throughout the changing seasons of her life Bridgette possessed a tenacity and determination of steel.
Whether it was during her schooldays at William Gordon Primary, C.H. Reeves Junior or R.M. Bailey
Senior High School, or during her employ at the Nassau Beach Hotel, Sun International, Radisson
Cable Beach Resorts, or Atlantis in the Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable Department, she was
a leader. Bridgette never danced to the beat of any one's drum. She made her own music and had others
follow her tune. She was an ambitious lady.
Bridgette entered her season of laughter when Denzel was born. He was her pride and joy. She instilled
in him the importance of 'standing on your own two feet during the rough times of life.' During her
illness Denzel did just that and took care of his mother in the season of joy and sadness.
Bridgette believed in excellence. She conducted her life in this spirit. Whether it was in her work, or her
deportment, she maintained and believed in high standards. She possessed an elegance and grace a style
that was all her own. Her smile could brighten any room she entered.
Affectionately called Bridge, my buddy, sister B, and B.J by those who knew and loved her, whatever
name she was called, everyone knew Bridgette possessed a 'don't quit' attitude. She was determined that
she could beat her odds. This was evident during the early days of her illness. She could be seen in a
coat suit, in a pair of tennis and a walker, making her way up and down the sand of Goodman's Bay and
Coral Harbor Park. Bridgette was no quitter. She fell many times during her race of life but never stayed
down or gave up. She would get back up, dust herself off and continue in her race of life. She endured
till the end.
She planted many seeds that brought forth fruits for the kingdom of God in its season. She was an
encourager and despite what she was experiencing in her personal life she never failed to encourage
someone else along the way.
The family alarm clock, Bridgette would start calling her siblings nieces and nephews from 5:45 am;
'morning; she would say. 'you up'. 'Time to get ready for work or school and have a blessed day'. The
problem however was that the alarm clock went off the same time on weekends and holidays. She would
call and say, 'oh you sleeping hey? chile go back to sleep get your rest and call me when you get up".
The seasons of life come and go and on Thursday October 4th 2012, Bridgette ceased her weeping. Her
season of life came to an end. She had mended relationships that had been torn and spoken her last
words to Denzel. She left those who she loved to continue in this race of life. She found peace in her war
with illness and entered her season of eternal rest.
