Obituary

"A man's life is not measured by wealth or life's possessions, but in the lengths he went to,
to raise his love and support for his family and the firm foundation he built."

A TIME TO BE BORN
On October 15, 1924 in the quaint settlement of Mars Bay, South Andros, Nathan and Loretta Meadows
(both deceased) welcomed the arrival of their newest addition, a son whom they named and christened Austin
Meadows. Austin was the second of Nine children, six of whom predeceased him.

A TIME TO LEARN
Austin attended the Pleasant Bay All Age School, where he received his education at the highest level possible
during that time. He was a brilliant student and learned very eagerly.

A TIME TO WORK
As an enterprising young man in the late 1930's, Austin applied and was accepted to work in Florida on
Contract, during the "Contract days."
Austin was a strong, shy, quiet/silent husband who consistently gave good advice. He loved to be alone, and
enjoyed the solitude of his home, his boat and the safety of his family. It was evident at an early age that Austin
had a deep, undying love for the sea. This continued throughout his life as he developed the skills to become a
Captain and an avid fisherman.

A TIME TO LOVE
Upon his returned from the 'Contract days" to Mars Bay, he met and married the beautiful Ruth Nixon on
December 20th, 1948. This union produced nine children, two of whom predeceased him.

A TIME TO DIE
Austin's health began to fail in early December 2013. On the early morning of December 14th he suffered a fall
and was taken to the Miriam Green Community Clinic for medical attention. As a result, he was transported
to New Providence for further medical attention and was hospitalized at Princess Margaret Hospital. He died
peacefully on December 31st, 2013 at 7:45 p.m.
There's an open gate at the end of the road,
Through which each must go alone;
And there's a light we cannot see our
Father claims His own.
Beyond the gate your loved one,
Find happiness and rest
And there's comfort in the thought
A loving God knows best
