Obituary

"Death is a time of sleeping, for those who die are in God's keeping, and there's a sunrise for each soul for life not death is God's promised goal. So trust God's promise and doubt never, for only through death can man live forever".

Helen Steiner Rice

Hubert John Craigg was born on July 18, 1926 in Port-of-Spain Trinidad to John Headley and Catherine Marie Craigg (nee Malone) (both of whom are deceased).
Hubert was the first born of this beautiful union of nine children. As the eldest son, he was always charged with the responsibility of leadership and to set the standard of excellence among his siblings. He received his early and secondary education in Trinidad. He was determined to excel even though it called for him to leave his home land. However, his citizenship of The Bahamas did not detour him from maintaining a close relationship with his family and the culture of Trinidad.
He was employed in the military service in Trinidad prior to joining Her Majesty Prison on September 1, 1953 as a Prison Officer. He believed in discipline, order, and was very meticulous in executing his duties. During his tenure at Her Majesty's Prison, Hubert continued to advance academically and was given the opportunity to train his fellow officers. His determination to advance allowed him to move through the ranks of Corporal (March 1, 1965), Sergeant (June 1, 1965), Principal Officer (September 1, 1970), and Chief Officer (January 1, 1981). He retired from the service on July 18, 1986 after serving for thirty-two (32) years.
Hubert was a gifted craftsman, and took pride in making furnitures, and turtle shell craft jewelry as a hobby.
In the early 50's he met and married Pauline Rebecca Ann Craigg (nee Jarrett) who predeceased him in 2009. This union was blessed with five children; Anthony "Tony", Headley (deceased), Sharon, Sybil and Catherine. He loved his family in his own unique way and was also willing to show-case his children to his family and friends.
In July of this year he became very ill and was hospitalized for almost two months. After the doctors exhausted their ability to help him, he was released from the hospital. Early in the morning on Saturday, September 15, 2012 the Lord in his mercy ushered in his soul to rest. While he would be missed, the comfort he has left his family is assurance that he is in the presence of the Lord.
