Obituary

On the 20th February, 1946, the Lord God Almighty saw it fit to bless Mervin and Almera Kelly, who lived in the settlement of Bluff on the Island of Eleuthera, one of the Islands of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, with a beautiful baby girl whom they named Cutel Adaisma Kelly. Cutel was the last of nine children who were born to Mervin and Almera Kelly, who was born into a Seventh - day Adventist home.

Cutel also known as "Cutie" attended the Bluff All Age School, which was a stone's throw from her parents house situate on the mission's hill, from age 4 until she obtained her leaving certificate.

After obtaining her leaving certificate from the Bluff All Age School, she relocated to New Providence to live with her older sister, Madlin Gertrude Kelly in Dorsettville, in order to continue her studies at the Nassau Technical School in Secretarial Procedure and Office Administration.

Cutel was initially appointed as a public officer in the Government of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas from the 12th December, 1967 as a Clerk Grade II in the Ministry of Education. She was promoted to Clerk Grade C1 on the 1st October, 1971. On the 1st April, 1974, Cutel was awarded an accelerated increment for meritorious services.

On the 1st February, 1978, Cutel transferred from the Ministry of Education & Culture to the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Affairs.

Obituary

Cutel was promoted to Senior Clerk in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Affairs on the 1st April, 1983. On the 1st October, 1986, she was promoted to Chief Clerk. In October 1992, she was promoted to the Executive Officer in the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture. O n the 1st July, 1997, Cutel was promoted to the post of Senior Executive Officer.

In April, 2001, Cutel transferred from the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture to the Registrar General's Department, Office of the Attorney General & Ministry of Justice.

Cutel was assigned to the Human Resource & Administrative Sections in the various Government Ministeries and Departments.

In a recommendation for Cutel's promotion, her Senior Officer described her as having made a positive difference in the Department. She further advised that Cutel attended to staff matters in a timely fashion while being a stickler for punctuality and attendance. Throughout Cutel's career, she was never late and was rarely absent from work.

Cutel retired from the Public Service on the 31st July, 2008, having given forty years, seven months and twenty days of exemplary service.

Cutel was not only an exemplarary public officer and Christian but she was also a beauty whom many Christian single men wished to court and marry. She was very particular about the manner in which she carried herself but was not impressed by men who looked good but had no determination, substance and vision. While working at the Ministry of Education & Culture to the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Affairs, she met and became well acquainted with a lovely, vibrant, young woman named Veronica Fraser (nee Symmonett). After Veronica got to know Cutel, she realized that Cutel would be a good wifely candidate for her brother, Christopher, to date. So Veronica acted as matchmaker by arranging the first date between Christopher and Cutel and at the end of this date, cupid's arrow left Christopher's heart and landed in the right ventricle of Cutie's heart. This love resulted in Christopher and Cutel being joined together on the 29th September, 1974, in Holy Matrimony at Christ The King Church on the Island of New Providence, by the officiating priest, Murillo Bonaby. Christopher's and Cutel's union were blessed with two children, a daughter, Cherita and a son, Karlen.

Cutel was committed to her walk with God and this was evidenced by the many offices she held in the Grants Town Seventh-day Adventist Church, which included choir member, deaconess, usher, prayer group member and advisor to many pastors who served at the Grants Town Church.

Cutie was a rare jewel, a quiet and devout Christian. She loved her God, her church and she always proclaimed that God will deliver her in difficult times. Cutie was an organized person who took her job very seriously so much so that when those around her in the office presented sloppy work to her, she became upset. Cutie always believed that people should take pride in their work and at the end of the day, everyone will be happy. Cutel believed in dotting every "i" and crossing every "t".

In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, the 22nd April, 2015, Cutel took her rest; she will be greatly missed by all members of her immediate and extended biological families, church family, Stapledon Gardens neighbours and those in the wider community with whose lives she impacted in many positive ways.
