A Time for Everything
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;a time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
A Time to Be Born
On a warm sunny day, in the beautiful island of New Providence in their home on Young Street, a bouncing baby girl was born to the late Nehemiah & Dell Gordon on May 7, 1938. She was named Elizabeth Cynthia.
A Time to Learn
Cynthia who we affectionately called "Titta", obtained her education at Long Bay Cays All-Aged School in South Andros.
A Time to Labour:
After completing her schooling she moved to Nassau in 1960 and worked at Lyford Cay Laundry, then to General Hardware Store, and in 1971 landed a job at the Britannia Beach Resorts, Paradise Island, which renamed Sun International Atlantis where she retired in 2002. She served in the capacity of pantry worker for over 30 years.
A Time for Family
Cynthia found the love of her life "Joseph Cartwright, where they were married on the 8th Day of August 1959. This union was blessed with five children. Three of whom pre-deceased her.
Like none other, Titta took in and cared for her siblings, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and even strangers in her home for years. She was a real family woman.
Serving Her God
Titta was a faithful member of the Annex Baptist Church where she served as a choir member until she became ill.
A Time to Die
A few years ago, Titta's health began to fail. She was hospitalized in early August for a few weeks. On Thursday, September 27, 2012, while at home, she quietly slipped away from all the pain and suffering at approximately 4:45 p.m.
