Earthel Moxey was born on July 24, 1946 to Pearl Moxey and the late Leonard Moxey in the quiet settlement of Mangrove Cay, Andros. He was the firstborn of this union.
He attended Mangrove Cay Primary School, and Burnt Rock High School. He excelled in the classroom becoming a teacher's monitor at fifteen years of age, and was also a stand out for the Burnt Rock High School during interschool track n' field competitions.
From 1968 to 1971, he attended the Teacher's College in San Salvador, as a member of the inaugural class. During his tenure at the College, he was selected to be a member of the student government, having garnered the respect of the administrators as a mature student capable of leading his peers. Liaising with students and administrators, he provided a redress for students on various matters.
Valuing education he continued in this vein obtaining his Bachelor's degree from West Indies College, Mandeville, Jamaica, and his Master's Degree from Andrew's University, Berrien Springs, Michigan.
Beginning his career in his early twenties as a Teacher's Monitor, he would appreciate a 45 plus year career as a dedicated educator with the Ministry of Education, before retiring in 2011. He taught at numerous schools on the Island of New Providence including: C. C. Sweeting; C .H Reeves, C. R. Walker; D. W. Davis; H.O Nash; S. C. McPherson. He also taught throughout the Family Islands at Chesters, Acklins; Staniard Creek, Andros; Alice Town, Bimini; Green Castle, Palmetto Point, James Cistern, Rock Sound, and Spanish Wells, Eleuthera; and Cockburn Town, San Salvador.
Earthel was a family man and had four children out of his union with Joycelyn Moxey nee Forbes. As a family man, he had a vision for his children. A vision he worked tirelessly to bring to fruition. With his passion for education and specific affinity for mathematics he spent countless hours drilling them in mathematical concepts, skills that many of them would use as foundation blocks for their careers. While education was important to him, accolades were not. He raised his children to approach tasks, with the attitude to always do their best, to see the task through to completion, to never look for the awards and/or tributes.
His responsibility for family was instilled at an early age as he was given the task by his parents to operate the family owned store; which he successfully managed for years. Later, he would work alongside his farther and others in the construction of the original "Moxey's Guesthouse". Throughout the years, he would continue to work with his parents to keep the business successful, even when he would no longer have been physically present in Mangrove Cay. His love for family came with a sense of responsibility. He often visited, and in the year's preceding his father's death, he spent even more time in Mangrove Cay, as it was important to him to be near his parents during this time.
He was not the type of individual to be idle, and kept himself engaged in constructive activity. Between his love for Andros and his love for writing, it was no surprise that he authored four short stories all relating in some way to the island he loved; Andros Before Our Time (1997), Echoes of Our Time (2000), Andros Tales & Legends (2006) and Mystical Bahamian Tales (2012).
He loved the sea and most activities related to it. In his earlier years, he built at least three boats just for recreational purposes in the yard of his Sea Breeze home. He also enjoyed spear fishing, a sport that would remain one of his favorites even into adulthood.
His other passions included working with the Boy's Scout in the 1960s as one of the two scout leaders in Little Harbour at the time. In later years, he would extend his community involvement to volunteer with the Red Cross Society.
Upon his retirement, he returned to his home town, Mangrove Cay where he became an active member of the Mangrove Cay Seventh-Day-Adventist Church and ultimately became the Head Elder. Prior to his relocation, he attended and served as a Sabbath School Teacher and Elder in the Centerville S.D.A. Church for many years.
