Obituary

On October 23, 1922 the quaint settlement of Albert Town, Long Cay celebrated the birth of a beautiful baby girl to Angus Taylor and Verneisha Farquharson. The proud parents named the child Edna Louise Taylor.
Edna attended the Long Cay All Age School under the teaching of Ms. Annie Brown where she excelled in her studies; completing "Standard Six" three times with honors.
She met her sweetheart Sidney Frazer, at the tender age of fourteen, one night at a local dance. It was love at first sight. Edna said, " when she and her best friend walked into the room wearing their pink taffeta dresses, Sidney turned to his best friend Answell and said, " I ga marry her". It must have been fate because at the age of nineteen, Sidney went on the "Contract " and returned nine years later to marry his sweetheart.
Sidney and Edna were united in Holy Matrimony on December 31, 1947. Their union was blessed with five children.
Edna was an industrious woman. She worked as a farm labourer to support her family while her husband was away on the contract. She was later employed as a janitor at the Long Cay All Age school for many years until her retirement in 1987. During World War II, she along with many other women on the island knitted sweaters, socks, hats and gloves for the soldiers. She was a strong woman, and at age ninety-two she was able to move around without any assistance. She could remember the birth dates of everyone in the entire family. Many Islanders would come and sit with her to obtain historical information about Long Cay and its descendants.
Her hobbies included fishing, farming, straw work and spoiling her grand and great grand children.
However, there is a time for everything in life and due to her age her body began to deteriorate. She was taken to hospital on July 20, with complaints of stomach pains and was called home on July 21.
