Obituary

"How mute we stand when death confronts us. We can only stand and bow our heads in humble submission to the Will of Him who doeth ALL things well".

A TIME TO BE BORN
On January 11th, 1943, on the quiet, quaint settlement of Bottle Creek, Turks & Caicos Island, a beautiful baby girl was born to the proud parents of Hugh and Esther Henfield (Nee Williams), the 3rd of six; 3, along with both parents now deceased. She was given the name Esther Jemima by her father. The name Jemima, she never liked although they were Biblical names.

A PLACE TO LIVE, SCHOOL AND WORK
She, along with her parents recruited to Pineridge, Grand Bahama, where her parents worked for the Owens Illinois Lumber Company. She attended Pineridge All Age School, after which, her employment began with Bethel Robinson Wine & Spirits. She was also employed at the Bahamas Transport and Distributive Allied Trade Union and moved on to the Judiciary Department until her retirement in the year 2008.

A TIME FOR LOVE
Along the way, she met a handsome, bright guy by the name of Freeman Cartwright, who predeceased her; "Oh how she Loved Bright Colors". It was Love At First Sight – a union was netted. They were married on 5th August, 1959 – 53 years. This union was blessed with 2 boys and 1 girl – deceased.

HER SPIRITUAL LOVE
She first attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. W.G. McPhee. She later transferred her church of worship to First Baptist Church due to transportation, where her membership continued. She was very supportive of her church and lodges until her demise. She made sure her children and grandchildren attended Sunday School and she formed the 1st Children's Choir of First Baptist Church. As guardian for her grandchildren, there were no exceptions; they played active parts in the Youth Department. She would check with the school teachers telling them if anyone misbehaved don't spare the rod! She was a pioneer of Commonwealth Mason & O.E.S. in which she held various positions in the organization. She was also a member of the Yellow Bird P.M.H. Kind Hearted, she was a person always giving. No one ever came to her home and left empty-handed. Her motto "When your hands are closed, nothing will come in" Publicity was something she never liked! Her favorite scriptures were Psalms 91 and Psalms 118.
