Deaconess Ethelyn Dorene Smith, aged 94, of Monastery Heights, Nassau, Bahamas, passed away peacefully. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ethelyn was cherished by her family and community. She was predeceased by her son Colin Smith, son-in-law Martin Allen, and siblings Isadora Hepburn-Williamson, Grace Cartwright, Alvin Sweeting, Michael Sweeting, and Stanley Sweeting.

Ethelyn is survived by her daughters Linda Smith, Patricia Rigby, and Sherry Allen, and her son Kevin Rigby and his wife Sonia. Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren, including Todd Simmons, Terez Albury, Anya Allen-Fox, Corey Simmons, Kellyn, Kailey, and Brandon Rigby, Monalisa Clarke, and Nyoka Hanna, as well as her five great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister Betty Sweeting-Lane, brother Calvin Sweeting, sisters-in-law Cennemae Sweeting and Emmaleta Sweeting, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and godchildren. Ethelyn was a cherished member of her church family and community, leaving behind many friends and loved ones who will miss her dearly.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at St. James Native Baptist Church, Meeting Street, officiated by Rev. Dr. Charles H. Rolle and assisted by Rev. Lexton Symonette, Rev. Dr. Sherene Cartwright, and Rev. Dwayne Rahming. Interment will follow at St. James Native Baptist Cemetery, St. James Road.
