Obituary

" I know that my Redeemer liveth. Though worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh I shall see God." Job 19:25a and 26b.

Idala Mavis Brown was born on 3rd August, 1954 to Juetta Ferguson and Whittington Deleveaux (deceased). She grew up in Colonel Hill, Crooked Island with her grandparents Granville and Leanorah Brown until she was fifteen (15) years old. She was nurtured in a loving environment surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins who helped to mold and shape her character. She developed into a loving, loyal, honest and wonderful person.

Mavis attended Colonel Hill Primary and Crooked Island Central High School, and after moving to New Providence she continued her education at Jordan Prince William High School. Following her graduation, she worked for a brief period at the Nassau Shop as a sales clerk before joining the Public Service.

Mavis worked in several government ministries including The Ministry of Education, The Cabinet Office, and The Ministry of Labour and National Insurance where she was posted as Senior Executive Secretary at the time of her death.

Mavis accepted the Lord as her personal saviour at an early age and grew in the knowledge and wisdom of him. She was a very humble person and led a simple life devoted to her family and her God. She was very passionate about her work and so excellence for her was a habit. Even when she was not feeling well, she would be on the job.

On 25th October, 2012 having completed all preparations for Hurricane Sandy, Mavis her mom, daughter and grand daughter, settled in to weather the storm. However, at about 5:00p.m Mavis began to experience difficulty breathing; she was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital where she dies at 3;45 a.m. the following day. She has gone on to be with her Lord.
