Obituary

Keith Timothy Lightbourn Jr. was born on September 8, 1984 on the island of New Providence. His parents Keith Timothy Lightbourn Sr. and Portia Fowler (nee Cole) were ecstatic! Portia was pleased because she had given birth to her first born, a healthy baby boy. Keith Sr. was similarly elated, pleased that his son had arrived on his birthday - the best present ever.

During early formative years to the age of five, Keith lived with his mother. As he began his primary education at Uriah McPhee, he lived with his father and paternal grandmother, Gwendolyn Gibson who both doted on him. For the remainder of his life until four months ago, Keith lived with his father and they shared a wonderfully special relationship.

Keith attended Temple Christian School after Uriah McPhee Primary and completed his last two years of secondary education at C.R. Walker Secondary School. After graduation, he studied Electrical Installation at BTVI.

While Keith never wanted to be an electrician, his first ob was with his father at AG Electric Company as an electrician's assistant. After several years, he began working at Cabbage Beach resort with a para-sailing company. There he discovered his love for the sea and anything related to boating. He also spent years at Lowe's Wholesale as a delivery driver. He returned to AG Electric Company in 2009, his last place of employment, and served as a counter salesman until October 2011.

In December Keith completed two interviews, one at a Cable Beach resort and one at Bahamas Hot Mix. I'ts not surprising that Keith would be offered the two jobs as he always represented himself in a clean-cut manner and while soft spoken, he would not have been afriad to "sell" himself.

In his free time, Keith preffered to be at home playing computer games or watching television. He was enamored with the Chicago Bulls, the New York Yankees, and the Boston Red Sox and watched all their games. On their last visit to New York, Keith and his father took a game at Yankee Stadium, and they experienced everything about New York including the fourteen dollar hot-dog. His father however could not convince him to see " The Lion King" on Broadway. He preferred to shop.

Keith's second passion was Junkanoo and from an early age, he rushed with the Shell Saxon Superstars and later with One Love Junkanoo Association. Despite his quiet, introverted demeanor, ringing cowbells in Junkanoo brought out a vibrant, active nature that forced him out of his shell.

To encapsulate him, Keith was a private, well-mannered young man, one of the first things anyone noticed about him. He was no pushover and stood his ground, quietly, no matter whoever it was; his father can attest to that. He harbored no friends. His father was his best friend. Sometimes they would fight like cats and dogs, but you could not get between this father and son. In today's world that's very rare. Their affectionate name for each other was "Paps." The memories they shared are immeasurable for a man and his only child.

For the last four months of his life, Keith lived with his mother on Harper Street, off Fire Trail Road. His mother, Portia will forever remember Christmas Day cooking with her firstborn where, in the kitchen , he told her, " My Grammy taught me to cook." He left home on December 30, on a short errand to buy groceries to cook a meal for his sisters.

Keith never made it back; he was gunned down on his way home from the store. Keith's place in the hearts of his family can never be replaced. He was a precious gem who will be missed forever.
