On the 30th day of June nineteen hundred and twenty nine a beautiful baby girl was born to the proud parents
of James Sweeting and Marion Johnson in the quaint settlement of Deep Creek, South Andros. They named
her Madgie Leanor Sweeting. She attended the All-Age-School at Pleasant, South Andros. After completing her
education; she was employed as a Teacher, Post Mistress, Entrepreneur and a Telephone Opetator.
"Mother" as she was affectionately called, met and fell In love with George Black (deceased), on 27th September,
1956, they were joined in holy matrimony and settled in their home at Pleasant Bay, this union was blessed with ten
children. Mother had a special love for children, she adopted many more and nurtured them into adulthood.
For many years "Mother" continued to reside in Pleasant Bay raising her grand and adopted children while managing
the family business and acting as the agent for the Captain Moxey. In-spite of the many hats that she wore; she still
found time to worship and praise her God.
In February 2011, due to advancing age, the family made a difficult decision and moved "Mother" from her beloved
Pleasant Bay home to New Providence so as to properly take care of her. In 2013 "Mother's" health slowly began
to fade. January 2014, she suffered a broken hip and underwent a successful surgery at the Princess Margaret
Hospital.
"Mother' while recuperating at home began to tell her sibling how tired she was and that she was ready to go to her
Heavenly home. However, a few weeks later she was readmitted to the Hospital, where she continued to received
much care from the Doctors and Nurses. On Friday, 11th April, 2014 at approximately 12:15 p.m., God saw how
tired she was, He called her into eternity, to sleep in the arms of the CREATOR.
"If we live, we live to the Lord, and
If we die, we die to the Lord."
Rest In Peace Mother,
We love you but Jesus loves you best.
