Obituary

It was Tuesday, June 25th, 1946, in the settlement of Port Howe, Cat Island that Emily Ferguson-Taylor and Orandell Sweeting proudly welcomed their baby boy into the world. He was endowed with the name Nathan.

His mother passed away when he was only six years old. He was left in the care of his older Sister - Luanna, Brother - Milton (now deceased) and Aunt – Bernice King (now deceased). Nathan received his early education at the Cat Island All Age School, where he mastered the art of Penmanship. Upon completion, he moved to New Providence, seeking a better way of life.

His first job was at Jim Carey Service Station, where he became an excellent Auto Mechanic. He later was employed at Bahamas Water Supply as a Mechanic and a Well Digger. That position allowed him to travel extensively as he worked throughout every Family Island for many years. Nathan had a strong entrepreneurial spirit that resulted in him owning and managing several businesses, including Superior Driving School and Superior Video Recording. Superior Driving School represents one of the oldest driving schools in The Bahamas, earning him the name of 'MR. SUPERIOR'.

Nathan acknowledged the sacrament of marriage and decided to get married. He was the proud father of four beautiful children. His endearing love for his children was displayed in the special names that he gave to each of them. Sabrina was 'ANGEL', NATHAN II was 'COLUMBO', Shirnae was 'PRECIOUS' and Nicholas was 'CHAMPION/KINGPIN'. He was a proud father.

Nathan loved music and was an extremely gifted Guitar Player. In the early years of United Christian Church, he taught many of the young men how to play the guitar. He loved his church and always was involved in many activities. He was ordained a Deacon and later became an ordained Minister of the Gospel.

He will be remembered by family, friends and his many students as having a contagious, happy personality. His awesome sense of humor always brought laughter to everyone he came in contact with. He would jokingly refer to himself as 'A MAN OF GREAT GIGOSITY' and 'MR. SWEET 'TING IN THE CAN'! He boasted of being the best baker 'Potato Bread, Cassava Bread and Coconut Jimmy that ever came out of Cat Island. His baking will be missed by his children, who enjoyed all of his dishes - and who also thought he was the best at it.

In 2009, Nathan was diagnosed with Cancer, which he bravely fought for many years. At the beginning of 2013, he became very ill and was hospitalized several times. His final video

recording was that of his son's wedding (Nathan II) on March 2nd, 2013. God saw his steps getting weary - on the 21st November 2013, He called him home.
