FAMILY LIFE...It was on a beautiful sunny day in 1950 when he met Ms. Lucinda Burrows and her sister the late Winifred Nottage who were new of the estate. He was dazzled by her beautiful physique and her deportment. He made his advances during the lunch break and shared their lunch, some good old green bean, yellow grits and steam fish with plantain plus a cold cup of switcher. This advanced action became an amalgamation of the two which lasted for 62 years producing sixteen(16) children. Throughout their lives together they experience some turmoil, troubles and trials but they stood the challenges as he always said " tough times don't last, tough people do". Even though he did not continue as a school teacher that disciplinarian instinct was in him when it came to his children's discipline and education. The eldest of the children always got the brunt of the rod if the others failed. As his children succeeded in life he was proud of their achievement this was carried through to his grandchildren and great grand. He played a pivotal role in the lives of his extended family member; he shared a close relationship with his siblings. He often boasted about his wife cooking and baking. He was also good in the kitchen especially during the birth of his children as he cared for his family.
SPIRITUAL LIFE... Sam was baptized at St. Johns Native Baptist Cathedral, by the late Rev. T. W. Donaldson. He attended regularly and made sure the children were there morning, noon and night every Sunday, weekdays for choir practice and other activities under the guidance of the late mother M. Donaldson. When time for a change came along, he with his family moved on with New Destiny Baptist Family. He often prayed for his chosen Bishop to keep his feet on solid ground as he leads God's people, remembering always it's God's time, his time and family time the balance share it as best he can. During the last few months of his life he worshiped God the Father continuously. He sang hymns, chants and choruses he had learnt from back in the day. He prayed more for his wife and each child, their children and their children and most of all for the spouses. He discussed life and death with family members as they visited him. As time drew near he prayed for families, friends and foes. He thanked God for his life time, asked for bountiful blessings on all who found time to spend with and encourage both he and his wife. He made request for all of his children to pray for Daddy. He asked that they all read and study the Book of Proverbs - children should never turn their backs on their parents because you are doing it to God your creator. He then thanked God for lifting such a very heavy burden off him. He now felt like a free bird.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT... He often reminisced of the early days when he made sure employers' children were taken to school. He spoke of the many times when they ran away from school he would often take them back to school without their parents knowing. He assisted with the community cleaning up. He sponsored various charitable and non charitable organizations. He enjoyed activities with his children such as the carnival, beaching, junkanoo, travelling with his family, attending church with his family, and working hand in hand. He was sports oriented too, as he sponsored the boxers and junkanoo groups. He was very much interested in the sportsmanship of his children, when they won a game he won one. He would boast among his friends about their achievement at the Elks Rest (The Hot Spot). He believed in challenging the young boys - popping bicycles and skating and once for a fifty dollar bet almost lost his life when he fell in front of a car.
HEALTH... Sam's health began to deteriorate in 2009. he was a known diabetic for 56years and a hypertensive for 34 years. He experiences insulin resistance along with other ailments including heart failure. In 2011 was when his visits to PMH became even more frequent.
