Obituary

Ms. Lopez was born at Benzy Hill, Long Island, Bahamas on 23rd November, 1922 to Daniel and Maggie Lopez (nee Major). Her father's family emigrated to the Bahamas from Cuba in 1822, exactly one hundred years before she was born. Her maternal foreparents had arrived much sooner, with the Early Settlers.

Ms. Sarah was employed in the domestic field for many years, and also at The Bahamas Country Club under Henry Newell Kelly, the General Manager in the 1950's.

The last thirty years of her working life, i.e., from 1962 to 1992, Ms. Lopez worked for Mr. Earl Wilson at his Restaurant and Bar on Mt. Royal Avenue in The Valley.

At the time of her death, she was one of the oldest residents and property owners in the Englerston Subdivision, for 59 years (1957 to 2016).

She was predeceased by her siblings, Ida Adderley, Raphael, Calvin, Melvin and Whitfield Lopez.

She is survived by her 4 children, Esther, Glen (Billy), David and George; four siblings, William Lopez, Olga Deveaux, Evelyn Gibson and Margaret Smith. Numbered among her many descendants are dozens of grandchildren, scores of great grands, innumerable nieces, countless nephews, a host of other relatives, friends, and many acquaintances. Special thanks to her caregiver V.G and the entire Palm Beach Street Community.
