Obituary

On November 26th, 1930 Mr. David Miller and Mrs. Irene Miller (nee Thompson) welcomed the birth of their son. He was later christened Stanley David Miller.

Stanley later attended the North Palmetto All Age School where he quickly excelled. In recognition of his passion and desire to impart knowledge, his Principal, Mr. C.W. Sawyer appointed him a monitor/teacher at the tender age of 12.

As time progressed, his love and passion for teaching continued. His Principal (C.W. Sawyer) realizing his insatiable desire to excel proceeded to enroll him in evening classes for further training, enhancing his knowledge in various subjects-including Mathematics and English, which were later identified as his favorite subjects.

Having received his early tutelage in Palmetto Point, in his relentless quest to impart knowledge to Bahamians nationally, he travelled to Nassau. There he worked in the Post Office for a short period until he was appointed Principal of Exuma All Age School in Barratarre, Exuma in 1958. There he acquired a reputation as being a strict disciplinarian, passionately imparting knowledge - teaching all subjects.

He met the love of his life, Ida Eliza (nee Cartwright) who he fondly referred to as "Dearest" and they married in 1954. Their union resulted in the birth of six wonderful children, sons Peter, Alexander, Rex and Audley and daughters Violet and Daphne.

In 1967 he attended the Bahamas Teachers College in Nassau. The following year he was appointed Principal of the Cedar Harbor All Age School, Cedar Harbor, Abaco. His teaching career continued with appointments to Abraham's Bay, Mayaguana, Millers', Long Island and Governor's Harbor, Eleuthera-where he served as Principal. Subsequently, Stanley Miller was assigned to several schools in Nassau- culminating with his assignment to C.I. Gibson Jr. High where he taught until his retirement.

He became ill and as a result, was taken to hospital on 14th January, 2014. He remained hospitalized for two days until his release on January 16th, 2014 and returned to his residence in Tall Pines where he remained under the special care of his children. There he continued to receive special care and attention from his children along with members of the Golden Gates Outreach Ministries who provided spiritual counseling- until his peaceful passing on the afternoon of the 20th January, 2014.
