On the 30th of September 1944 in the tranquil settlement of Mars Bay, South, Andros, a handsome baby boy was born. They named him Thomas. Thomas was the second of eight children born to the union of Ronald and Marinetta Young (both deceased). Access to a quality education in the family island communities in those days was very limited and as a result his education was confirmed to the public all age school in Pleasant Bay, Andros.
At an early age Tom followed in his father's foot steps and developed a keen interest in the field of carpentry and boat building. Tom at an early age also developed an entrepreneurial spirit, and along with his Dad would build and operate their own fishing vessel, from which they were able to provide a decent living for their family. Later in life he would relocate to Freeport, Grand Bahama where he was able to hone his technical skill and take advantage of the booming construction industry at that time. He later returned to New Providence and continued to work in the construction field. It was here in Nassau that he met and instantly fell in love with the lovely charming Neilly Curry. This union produced his loving daughter Karen. Tom was a person with an infectious personality, everyone always seemed to be attracted to him, Tom seemed to be well versed about every story and if he did not know he simply made it up, what a guy!
His cousin and friends were always by his side. Tom was handicapped for many years following an accident on a construction site. During this entire period he was ably cared for by his devoted sister Myrtis and later his daughter Karen. His health started to deteriorate over the pass year. He was in and out of the hospital, but the later few months his health worsened and he was admitted to the Princess Margaret Hospital and on the early morning of December 9th, 2014, he quietly slipped away.
